Deer Steak & Gravy

hey!

Do you have a hunter in the family? I am married to a Hunter...in fact...his WHOLE family are hunters! So..of course!...I have to learn to cook Deer, Pheasant, etc.

I'll let him do the hunting....and I'll stick to cooking :)

While we were back home visiting, my mother-in-law cooked Deersteak and Gravy with Mashed Potatoes and my hubby said this is like his all-time favorite meal! I got the recipe from her and from Grandma and IT IS DEEEELICIOUS!

If you have some Deer Meat laying around give this a try!! :)...

Someday, Tyler wants me to try this recipe with Chicken instead of Deer....so if you have some chicken breasts substitute it in and see how it is!

DEERSTEAK & GRAVY:

*1 or 2 lbs of Deer Steak
*1 Can Cream of Chicken Soup
*1 Can Cream of Celery Soup
*1 to 2 Cans of Water
*1 C. of Flour
*Vegetable oil
*Season Salt and Pepper

1-Pound the deer steak to make it tender
2-Cover deer with flour.
3- In a large pot heat up some vegetable oil
4-Place Deer in pot and season well with season salt and pepper
5-Brown meat on both sides...cook till done
6-Remove meat and place into a baking dish
7-In the same pot, add soup, and about 1 1/2 Cups Water (Add more water or less depending on how thick you would like the gravy). Bring to a boil.

Recipe for ORGANIZED CLEANING!

Hello All!

I don't have a food recipe today, but what I DO have is a Recipe for Organized Cleaning! Thanks to my mom :)

Well its getting to be that time!...SPRING CLEANING! For most of us this can be a stressful and frustrating time of year.

My mom has been generous enough to share the Directions for her ORGANIZED CLEANING BOX with us to make it less stressful! This box helps your organize ALL of your cleaning chores. Mom has been using this Box to clean for 20+ years and her house is always Spotless!!

As you can see she has it separted into days of the month and months of the year.

Each day you pull out the Cards you have for that day and those are the chores you do.
For example here are the chores my mom had for One day.

Ready to get Started!? I'm definitely going to get the supplies and make one of these to get myself more organized!

SUPPLIES NEEDED TO MAKE THE BOX:
--1 3x5 Card File Box (Recipe Box)
--200 3x5 Index Cards
--4 Blank Dividers
--12 Dividers Labeled January through December
--31 Dividers labeled 1 through 31

DIRECTIONS TO PUT IT TOGETER:
This will give  you an example of one room (Kitchen), then you will go through EACH room of your house and do the same thing for each one.

1-In a Notebook or on a paper make a list of everything that needs to be cleaned throughout the year in the Kitchen. Minus everyday tasks such as Washing Dishes.
         For Example:      Clean Appliances
                                     Clean Oven
                                      Clean insides of cupboards
Clean outside of Cupboards with Murphys Oil Soap
Clean the Microwave: Put 1/2 C. of Lemon Juice in a measuring cup and
                                          microwave for 2 mintues.
                                      Clean Ligh Fixtures
                                      Wash Kitchen Rugs
                                       Clean out fridge/freezer
                                        Clean and organize the pantry
                                       Swiffer Floors
**Your list might look a little different.

2-Now transfer each job above onto an index Card. Write Job in the Middle of the card.

3- You will decide from the following list how often you need to do each job

                                         DAILY                                            D
                                         Every Other Day                             EOD
                                         WEEKLY                                        W
                                         TWICE A WEEK                            2/W
                                          EVERY OTHER WEEK                EOW
                                          MONTHLY                                     M
                                         EVERY OTHER MOTH                  EOM
                                         TWICE A YEAR                             2/Y
                                          YEARLY                                         Y
**Use a Pencil so you can easily change things if needed.

4-In the lefthand corner of your Card right how often you will do that job, using the above code. For example if the job is "Clean Out Fridge/Freezer" you might want to do that once a week. So in the top Lefthand corner you would write "W".

5-Now you will go through EACH room of your house and do the same thing. Take your time. This will obviously take awhile!

6-Now for the 1 through 31 dividers....Flip through until you are at Todays Date. Put the whole set (1-31) dividers into the front of the File Box, Starting with todays date.
Each night you will rotate the date just ended to the back of the numbers. You always want the current date in front of the box.

7-After you have all the jobs from all your rooms transferred onto Cards you are ready to file them into the box! File everything to the front.

8-File Daily cards in front of Todays Date

9-File the Weekly Cards and Every Other Week Cards into their appropriate place.

10-Place the January-December Card Dividers into the box with This Months Card first.

11-Each day you will pull out all the cards in that day and do those Chores, then file the cards back into the box.

12-Take 12 Blank Cards and write the month at the top. Transfer all birthdays, anniversaries etc. onto each card. Put all April birthdays, anniversaries, etc. on the April card and so on! And File into appropriate place in box.

And your done! Your all ready to start cleaning! I can't wait to start mine! :)

White Chicken Alfredo Lasagna

Good Morning!

Wow! I had some problems cooking lastnight, I had to text my mom for help, and Tyler was making fun of me! ha!

I put the Lasagna in the Oven for 25 min. (like the recipe said) And I pulled it out and told Tyler "Mmmmm! It smells sooo good!" Pulled off the foil and.....The noodles WERE NOT cooked!! Oops! I used Oven Ready noodles, but didn't realize I had to cook the Lasagna for 60 minutes NOT 25 min. with Oven Ready Lasagna. SO glad my mom helped me realize this! And Tyler was willing to wait an extra 50 min. lastnight to eat supper.

In the end it was definitely worth it!! This creamy White Chicken Alfredo Lasagna turned out DELICIOUS!!! :)

All the ingredients

Cook and Shred/Chip the Chicken

Mix the Chicken, Cheese, and Sun-dried tomatoes

Beat together Cream Cheese, Milk, Garlic Powder and basil

Lasagna before the Oven

Ready to eat!!...FINALLY :)

WHITE CHICKEN ALFREDO LASAGNA:
*2 Cups Shredded Chicken (I used 3 Chicken Breasts), cooked and shredded
*1 Package Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
*1/2 Cup Shredded Parmesan Cheese
*1/2 Cup Sun-Dried Tomatoes
*2 Packages Cream Cheese
*1 Cup Milk
*1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
*2 Tablespoons Basil
*12 Lasagna Noodles

Preheat the Oven to 350. In a medium-sized bowl combine Shredded, Cooked, Chicken, 1 Cup Mozzarella, parmesan and sun-dried tomatoes.
In a small bowl beat together Cream Cheese, Milk and Garlic Powder. Stir in basil.
Mix 1/2 of Cream cheese Mixture with the Chicken.
In a 13x9 pan pour just enough cream cheese mixture to cover the bottom. Top with 3 Lasagna noodles. Top that with 1/3 of the chicken mixture. Repeat layers twice. Having the top end with Noodles, Cream Cheese mixture and MOzzarella Cheese. Cover with Foil and Bake.

Now, If you are using "Oven Ready" Noodles--Bake for 60 mintues. Uncover and bake 5 more min. Remove from oven and let set for 10 min.

If your using regular Lasagna noodles Boil first. Then bake the lasagna for 25 min. Just until heated through.

One thing I would do different is use 2 packages of Mozzarella Cheese.

Enjoy!! It's something different from your everyday lasagna! Very creamy, with great flavor!!

Originial recipe came from: http://tandriantastytidbits.blogspot.com/2011/11/creamy-white-chicken-and-artichoke.html?showComment=1320724777727#c2360032814037639630
I changed mine up a little bit.

Manly Meatloaf

Usually when I want to try a recipe I ask Tyler (my hubby), if he likes that type of food.

Well, when I made Meatloaf I guess I just assumed he liked it. When he came home and I was getting supper out I said with a big smile on my face "I hope you like Meatloaf! It smells delicious!"
And he says "No, I don't think I like Meatloaf" haha oops!...

But trusting my cooking and being the kind man that he is...He agreed to try it....And guess what?!....YEP HE LOVED IT!!! ANDDD....Its now one of his favorite meals!!

So if you are looking for a delicious meal to cook for your man, or family, or friends...this one is a winner! I believe I got this recipe from my Mom who is an AMAZING COOK!!

I like to call this recipe MANLY Meatloaf ;).

These potatoes are DELICIOUS!!! Amazing flavor with the garlic, bacon and season salt YUM!! These are definitely a MUST try!!

GARLIC ROASTED POTATOES WITH BACON:
*1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
*1/2 lbs Hickory smoked, thick sliced bacon
*3 1/2 lbs Potatoes
*2 cloves garlic, minced
*1/4 Cup Shredded cheese
*Season Salt
*Pepper
*Parsley

Peel Potatoes and cut in half. In a large pot, boil potatoes. Cook for 12-15 minutes, until fork tender. Drain and allow to cool.

Slice bacon into about 1/2 in. pieces and cook in a skillet until golden. When done place bacon on a paper-towel covered plate.
Reserve Bacon Drippings

Preheat oven to 425.
Mince garlic.
On the bottom of a baking sheet brush on the olive oil and half of bacon drippings.

Cut potatoes into bite sized pieces and place onto baking sheet. Sprinkle with Season Salt and Pepper and cook in oven for 35-40 mintues. You can rotate the potatoes halfway through if you would like. I did not do this and they turned out fine.

Remove potatoes and reduce the temp to 375. Turn potatoes over and sprinkle with more Season Salt and Pepper. Sprinkle with the minced garlic, parsley and bacon. Sprinkle cheese on top and cook another 15-20 min.

I could eat the whole pan!!

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Pie

All I can say is YUMMMMM!!! This pie is So delicious!

The Strawberry Pie I have made in the past was always so runny you had to almost use a bowl to eat it! But this pie held together very nicely.

Yum! Yum! Yum!!

CHOCOLATE COVERED PIE:
*1 quart fresh strawberries, sliced
*1 (8oz) package of cream cheese, room temperature
*1 cup confectioners sugar
*2 cups white chocolate chips
*1 cup milk chocolate chips
*1 cup heavy cream
*1 teaspoon vanilla extract
*1 chocolate pie crust (like Oreo)

I didn't cook my crust, it held together really well.

Melt 3/4 cup of of the white chocolate chips in the microwave (30 second intervals)for about 1-2 minutes, being careful not to burn. Set aside.

Beat the heavy cream, vanilla extract, & 1/2 cup of the confectioners sugar with an electric mixer in a bowl until it becomes thick.

In a separate bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, the other 1/2 cup of confectioners sugar, & the cup of melted white chocolate.Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture.

Spread the cream into the chocolate pie crust. (I recommend not putting all of the cream in the crust at first. There is a lot of cream and it will overflow as you stuff in the quart of strawberries.) Then, press the sliced berries into the mixture ALL over it. Find every single available nook & cranny, and shove a berry in it!

Melt the remaining white chocolate in one bowl & melt the milk chocolate in another. Drizzle the melted milk chocolate on first…then the white chocolate.

Refridgerate for a couple hours so the chocolate can harden a bit and Serve!

I found this recipe here:
http://sdwallingfamily.blogspot.com/2012/03/chocolate-covered-strawberry-pie.html

I only used about 1/2 to 3/4 of the Creap Cheese and Whipped cream mixture, but I refridgerate the rest of it, because it makes a DELICIOUS fruit dip!! :)

Enjoy!

Applebees Spinach Artichoke Dip

As an Appetizer for Easter yesterday I made the copycat Recipe for Applebees Spinach Artichoke Dip! It tastes exactly the same! We loved it!

Just for fun I made a little bread bunny and cut out the tummy to turn it into a bowl! Super easy!..My mom makes one every year! I just made dough in the bread maching and shaped it into a bunny and baked! I used Chocolate chips for the eyes :)

Recipe for Spinach Artichoke Dip:

*10 ounces box frozen chopped spinach, thawed: I used a 17 oz. bag
*14 ounces can artichoke hearts, drained and roughly chopped
*1 cup shredded Parmesan-Romano cheese blend::I added more cheese
*1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
*10 ounces prepared Alfredo sauce::I used a 16 oz. Jar
*1 teaspoon minced garlic
*4 ounces softened cream cheese

Preaheat oven to 350.

Mix all the ingredients together and bake for 30 mintues or until cheese is nice and bubbly!
Serve with Chips, Pretzels or Veggies.

It makes a lot!

Here's the website where I found the recipe!

Chicken Cordon Bleu

Happy April Fool's Day! Don't let anyone fool ya :). Tyler made me promise not to play any jokes on him haha...So I'm being nice this year!
What did you all have for Easter Dinner?! Since it was just Tyler and I...I didn't want to cook a big ham, so thought we try something different. I found this recipe for Chicken Cordon Bleu on Pinterest. I was a little nervous, but it turned out AMAZING!!! It was soooo good! :) And Tyler LOVED it!
Give it a try!

This is how they turned out! Delicious! Don't they look yummy?!

It calls for Swiss Cheese, but I used shredded Mozzarella and Deli Ham. Put the cheese on the ham and roll it up.

Cut a slice (lengthwise) in the chicken breast, don't cut all way the through. And stuff it with 2 ham rolls. And seal the breast with a toothpick. Refridgerate for 20 minutes. Get everything else ready while it refridgerates! Multi-tasking ;)

I got to use my Food Processor for the first time ever! I loved it! To chop up the bread slices and Ritz crackers. Drizzle in the butter and spread them in a pan.

You will cook this for 3-5 minutes

Get the flour, beaten egg with mustard and crumbs ready for the chicken breasts. Then dip the chicken into the flour, egg, then crumbs and place in baking dish! Bake 25-30 mintues.

Chicken Cordon Bleu Recipe: The Recipe makes 4 breasts. Total Time: 1 hr.
*25 Ritz Crackers
*4 Slices Bread
*6 Tablespoons Butter
*8 Slices Deli Ham
*2 C. Shredded Mozzarella or Swiss Cheese
*4 chicken Breasts
*Salt and Pepper
*3 Eggs
*2 Tablespoons Dijon Mustard
*1 Cup Flour

1-Preheat oven to 450
2-Cut a slice, lengthwise, into chicken breasts...don't cut all the way through. Place shredded cheese in middle of a piece of ham and roll up. Stuff each breasts with 2 ham roll ups.Seal closed with toothpicks. Season with Salt and Pepper. Refridgerate for 20 mintues.
3-Pulse bread and crackers in food processor until ground. Drizzle in melted butter. Transfer crumbs to a baking sheet and bake for 3-5 minutes. Stir occasionally till lightly brown.
4-In a dish beat eggs and dijon mustard. In a separate bowl pour in flour.
5-Dip chicken into flour, then egg mixture, then crumbs and place chicken in baking dish. Bake on lowest rack for 10 mintues. Lower oven to 400 and move chicken to middle rack and cook an additional 25-30 minutes.

I served this with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Crescent rolls! A very yummy meal! Enjoy :)
